Statistics show 5 percent growth in road freight transit through Iran’s territory from March to June 2023 compared to the same period in the last year.

Road freight transit has increased in the first four months of current year (Persian calendar) compared to the las year, Darush Amani, head of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) informed.

In the four months, from March to June 2023, 168600 fleets transited 3.65 million tons freight through Iran’s territory showing 5 percent growth in terms of numbers of traffic and 3 percent growth in terms of tonnage, added Amani.

It is expected that the volume of transit from the territory of Iran will continue to grow further in the coming months with the efforts made by international transport companies as well as involving institutions through some initiatives.

The initiatives include use of diplomacy to explain the logistic advantages of transit through Iran’s territory, active participation in regional and international relations, holding joint road transport meetings at different levels with different countries particularly neighboring countries, regulating and strengthening infrastructures of border terminals, improving road networks leading to border terminals, pursuing establishment of logistic functions at borders, implementing mechanized queuing system in border terminals specially borders with high traffic and solving other border problems.

Noteworthy, Iran has transited 9,300,000 tons domestic and international freights through its road borders in the last year from March 2022 to March 2023.
